As one of the most promising packaging methods for lithium batteries, the advantages and disadvantages of soft package packaging are equally obvious.

On the plus side, the first is the high energy density. According to the data, the average core energy density of the mass-produced ternary soft pack power battery in the current power battery industry has reached 240-250Wh/kg, while the energy density of ternary square power battery with the same material system is 210-230Wh/kg. The energy density of the single cell of the ternary soft pack power battery is 10%-15% higher on average than that of the ternary square power battery.

 

 

It is safety performance is good next. In recent years, the occurrence of spontaneous combustion accidents of new energy vehicles has made the government and consumers pay more attention to the safety of new energy vehicles. With the same material system, the ternary soft package power battery is encapsulated in the aluminum plastic film soft package. If the battery thermal control occurs, the heat is generally released by bloating. And the square, cylindrical battery because of the use of hard shell packaging, heat can not be released, internal pressure is large, will cause an explosion.

The third is good electrochemical performance. The ternary soft pack power battery has the advantages of large capacity and small internal resistance. Due to the use of aluminum plastic film packaging, the capacity is 50% higher than the same size, material system of steel shell battery, higher than the aluminum shell battery 20-30%. Due to the small internal resistance, the ternary soft pack power battery can greatly reduce the power consumption of the battery, improve the performance of battery magnification, cycle life and produce less heat.

The fourth is flexible design. At the cell level, the size and shape design of the ternary soft pack power battery cell is flexible, and enterprises can customize according to their own product design and customer needs. At the module and battery pack level, the spatial layout of ternary soft pack power battery is more flexible, can be rectangular or T-shaped layout, to meet the spatial requirements of more models for power battery.

However, compared to the square cells, the use of soft-pack batteries in the market is less. This is because the disadvantages are equally obvious.

First, the product consistency requirement of soft pack battery is higher. The ternary soft package power battery is more complex in the production process, such as the packaging link is difficult to control, prone to bulging and other problems, resulting in poor product consistency, which puts forward higher requirements on the technical level and manufacturing process of enterprises.

 

 

Second, the efficiency of grouping is relatively low. Compared with the square and cylindrical power batteries of the same material system, the grouping efficiency of the ternary soft package power battery is relatively low, which makes the energy density of the ternary soft package power battery system have little difference compared with the square and cylindrical power battery system.

Third, the cost is relatively high.
