What is a power lithium battery?

Power lithium batteries are different from ordinary lithium batteries in the following ways.

First, the nature is different.

 

Power lithium battery is a battery that provides power for transportation tools, generally relative to small batteries that provide energy for portable electronic devices; and ordinary lithium battery is a lithium metal or lithium alloy as the negative material, using a non-aqueous electrolyte solution for primary batteries, and rechargeable batteries lithium ion batteries with lithium ion polymer batteries are not the same.

Second, the battery capacity is different.

 

In the case of new batteries, the battery capacity is tested with a discharge meter, and the capacity of general power lithium batteries is around 1000-1500mAh; while the capacity of ordinary lithium batteries is more than 2000mAh, and some can reach 3400mAh.

Third, the discharge power is different.

 

A 4200mAh power lithium battery can be discharged in just a few minutes, but ordinary lithium batteries cannot do that at all, so the discharge capacity of ordinary lithium batteries cannot be compared with that of power lithium batteries at all.

 

The biggest difference between power lithium batteries and ordinary lithium batteries lies in their high discharge power and high specific energy. Since the main use of power lithium batteries is for automotive energy supply, they have to have a higher discharge power compared to ordinary batteries.

The characteristics of lithium power batteries are described as follows.

 

(1) The working voltage of a single battery is as high as 3.7V, which is three times higher than that of NiCd and NiMH batteries and nearly two times higher than that of lead-acid batteries, which is also an important reason for the high specific energy of lithium power batteries. Therefore, when forming a power battery pack with the same voltage, the number of series connections used for lithium power batteries will be much less than that of lead-acid batteries and nickel-hydrogen batteries.

 

(2) Light weight, large specific energy, up to 150Wh/Kg, is two times the nickel-hydrogen batteries, lead-acid batteries four times, so the weight is the same energy lead-acid batteries one-third to one-fourth, from this point of view, lithium consumes less resources, and because the reserves of elements used in lithium manganate batteries are more, so compared to lead-acid, nickel-hydrogen batteries may further increase prices, lithium power battery costs On the contrary, it is further reduced.

 

(3) Smaller in size, up to 400Wh/L, one-half to one-third the size of lead-acid batteries. Provides design conditions, design space and possibilities for a more rational structure and more aesthetically pleasing shape. At this stage, due to the limitations of lead-acid batteries in terms of volume and weight, designers' design ideas are greatly constrained, resulting in a "one-size-fits-all", similar and monotonous structure and appearance of electric bicycles at this stage.

 

(4) Long cycle life, up to 1000 cycles. With a capacity of 60%, the battery pack can be charged and discharged 100% of the time for more than 600 times, with a service life of 3-5 years, which is about two to three times that of lead-acid batteries. With the innovation of technology and the improvement of equipment, the life of the battery will become longer and longer, and the cost performance will become higher and higher. 

 

(5) The self-discharge rate is low, less than 5% per month.

 

(6) Allowed to work in a wide range of temperatures, low temperature performance is good, lithium power battery can work between -20 ℃ ~ +55 ℃, especially suitable for low temperature use, while the aqueous solution battery (such as lead-acid batteries, nickel-hydrogen batteries) in low temperature, due to electrolyte liquidity deterioration will lead to greatly reduced performance.

 

(7) No memory effect, so it does not need to be discharged before each recharge, like NiCd and NiMH batteries, and can be recharged anytime and anywhere.
