What is a soft pack lithium battery?

The so-called soft-pack lithium battery is a kind of name compared to the cylindrical and square hard-shell batteries. Its internal composition (positive electrode, negative electrode, diaphragm, electrolyte) is not much different from square and cylindrical lithium batteries. The difference is that the soft-pack lithium battery uses aluminum-plastic composite film as the outer shell, while the square and cylindrical batteries use metal materials as the outer shell.

Generally speaking, soft pack lithium batteries mainly have the following advantages:

1. Good safety: The soft-packed lithium battery is structured with aluminum-plastic film packaging. In the event of thermal management out of control or puncture, the soft pack will provide buffer space for the battery cell, bulge and deform, and eventually catch fire or smoke. But it will not explode.

2. Light weight and high energy density: The weight of the soft-packed lithium battery is 40% lighter than the steel shell battery of the same capacity, and 20% lighter than the aluminum shell battery, so it usually has a higher energy density, and the current domestic breakthrough 300Wh/kg energy Most of the battery companies at the density mark use soft-pack lithium batteries.

3. Good electrochemical performance and long life: The internal resistance of the soft-packed lithium battery is small, which can greatly reduce the battery's self-consumption; in addition, the soft-packed lithium battery has a longer cycle life.

Similarly, soft pack lithium batteries also have shortcomings, that is, poor product consistency, high cost, prone to liquid leakage and flatulence, and the need for additional shells during the grouping process, and the PACK process is highly complex.
